My Story by Anubis
In order to tell this story, I have to go back one year.
In April of last year my best friend
Nicola was getting fed up with me going on about searching for my natural family. Such a choice is not easy to make. She got
me membership to a group who's specialism was in adults who are adopted, inside my membership pack was a flyer from the BBC.
they wanted to film people who was searching for their family. she thought it would be a good idea to apply.
The series
was called 'Family Wanted'. So we applied and was accepted for filming. It took a long time to find my family, and was often
very very painful, especially when I found out my mother had passed away. Nicola was always at my side and never ever let
go. It was the scariest adventure I have ever been on. We did eventually locate my father, and we arranged to meet up. so
along came Nicola and my film crew. I remember nearly breaking her hand as I was holding on so tight. Well we all
met and many tears did flow. The upshot was that I was very lucky in getting such a result, and even more lucky to have a
friend like Nicola to hold my hand when I was scared. The show went out in July last year and had 2.25 million viewers. A
nice little result for all.. And I got a family.
This then posed a dilemma, how do you say thank-you to someone who
gave you the world. It wasn't easy coming up with the right method until....I saw The riddler was in Norwich
at the 'Greatest Ever'. Hmmmm Well I wrote to the people who ran the event and never expected to hear anything back. Well
they did reply to me, and what stars they was. We had back some stage pass' to meet the RIDDLER. I kept this secret from her,
she had no idea what was going on. The day came and when we arrived at Carrow
Road, we told her...she went mental!!
Anyways we got to meet him, and spent some quality
time with him. he is such a kind caring Gent. Truly an honour to meet him and he was very
caring for his guests. I told him this story and how I remembered pointing at the screen one Saturday night as he sang, 'the
phantom' and saying...'that’s the winner' he turned around to his team and said 'lets do the phantom'. We went on to
explain how much 'you raise me up' meant to me, as it reminds me of the strength Nicola gave me to search for my family. Well
he went out and his first song was indeed 'The Phantom' The rest was a blur until his last song. He added one to his 'set'
He sang 'you raise me up' cue floods of tears and a complete over load of emotions from me - completely lost it. Now I don't
know how true the rumours are about his lady friend, but she came over and gave me a massive cuddle and said he has that effect
on her too. During the song he pointed to myself and Nicola and smiled. And of course I lost it all over again!!
We
met up after the show and said he had not planned on doing that song and we just hugged him to death! Then it was time to
bid him farewell and god speed.
We know the album is out in September!
I just wanted to share a very special
day with you all, and all the reports on his kindness are so VERY VERY TRUE.

Simon Cowell:
"You know this show can produce stars,
and I think that’s what it’s all about, and I have to say, if we are going to award the prize to the person who
has been consistently, actually brilliant throughout, you have to give it to you Rhydian."
